WHO WE ARE

Kate Krebs Lyda created Staro Insights based on the belief that people and organizations are most successful when they make values-based business decisions. In order to get to the “how” in a business, philanthropic, nonprofit, or impact investing strategy, leaders must understand where their story began and the change they are trying to effect. Staro Insights’ story began in 2019 when Kate set out to help organizations move money to make an impact; the name Staro was inspired by the tiny village in northern Italy from which Kate’s great-grandmother emigrated to the U.S.

Kate brings expertise from a range of problem-solving perspectives to help her clients mobilize resources and capital for impact. With over twenty years of experience in the philanthropic sector, Kate has worked with a broad range of nonprofits and foundations on creating impact through charitable investing. With a colleague at The Denver Foundation, Kate launched the Foundation’s impact investing pilot program and she made it possible for donor-advised fundholders make impact investments. Kate’s impact investing and revenue development background includes pipeline development, due-diligence, impact strategy, capital campaigns, feasibility studies, and capital stack design. She has secured tens of millions of dollars in resources for nonprofit organizations.

Kate is particularly interested in working with community-driven nonprofits where those most affected are the ones making decisions, and with foundations and families who are interested in shifting power and resources to Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and other communities. Kate's team includes experienced independent consultants who are committed to advancing racial equity and who bring a variety of expertise to each client's project.

Kate holds an MBA from Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis, a Master’s of Nonprofit Management from Regis University, and a BA in English from the University of Colorado at Denver.

Kate is from north Denver and still calls it home, now with her husband and two children and a little dog named Freddy.
